		<description>Agreed that you could compare sexism and racism without a problem in this case. But slavery *actually* no longer exists, where as sexism does. If you wanted to use slavery, then women not being able to vote might work better. I&#039;m just picking at words, I guess.

		<description>I was just speaking in terms of our social norms.   All I mean is that it is now conventional, accepted wisdom that sexism is wrong, even if sexism still exists.  Similarly, it&#039;s accepted that racism is wrong, even though it still exists.
It probably would&#039;ve been clearer if I&#039;d just said &quot;sexism&quot; and &quot;racism&quot;.  But (and maybe inferring the wrong thing) your comment seems to imply that the lingering effects of pre-feminist thought continue to be a serious problem in a way that the lingering effects of pre-emancipation thought are not.  If so, I disagree.  But I&#039;m probably reading too much into what you said.

I really think this is in a different category than slavery. Plenty of people still think women are inferior to men. Women still get paid less than men.
