check me out
I'm going to be presenting at the next Dorkbot DC, and I'm pretty excited about it. If you're free a week from Wednesday why not come down to GW and listen to folks get excited about DIY hardware?

I would love to come, but I am hosting a DC Drupal Meetup that night.
I know -- unlucky scheduling! The Dorkbot meeting was originally supposed to be the night before, but problems surrounding the room's use pushed it back a day. I'm sorry I'll be missing the Drupal meetup -- I enjoyed the last one.
I would love to get details on the project you are showing at Dorkbot. Unfortunately I am in Pittsburgh though and can't make it to DC for your talk. Will you be posting details on your presentation here after you have presented?
Sure. I will probably put together a powerpoint or something similar, and will try to record a podcast of the actual presentation.
If I'm not mistaken, the Drupal Meetup is Wednesday the 26th (see here), right Mike? (and I realize there is both a Lab and a bar meetup this month).
Um, never mind me, I must be smoking something. Yes, they are both on the same day.
Alas, I'd also love to see this talk, but am *also* in Pittsburgh. Maybe we should set up a satellite showing! :)
Quick question: could you tease us with a parts list or something? This would let those of us who might immediately adopt your technique to get started faster.
Sure -- sorry to tease you guys and then not deliver.
The short version is that I'm using a Fonera router loaded with a custom DD-WRT firmware. This provides a Linux environment with wifi, an ethernet port, and a serial connection to the Arduino.
These routers can usually be found for $10-$15 (or less -- I got two just by asking coworkers), but do note that this violates the Fonera terms of use. If you're bothered by that, there are a variety of routers that can also run DD-WRT and cost slightly more -- typically $20-40. They'll also have more memory, capabilities, and be easier to load DD-WRT onto. You can find details on the DD-WRT project page.
I already blogged some of this -- you can find details here and here. I'll have a more complete writeup after Dorkbot.
I am in NYC. I saw a notice about this meeting on makezine's site. While I wont be a able to be there, I am looking forward to the slides and podcast.
Thanks!
The slides and the podcast are now up.
